What is taken into account in the valuation?
- Known artist, technique and dimensions of the work.
- Condition of the surface and material, damage and restorations.
- Provenance and existing documents; attribution requires expert examination.
Which photos and details should I add?
Add the artist's name, technique and dimensions. Photograph the front and back of the work, the signature and any provenance documents.
Add the dimensions in centimetres and the technique if you know them. Describe the provenance as far as you know it, without guessing the artist.
You don't need to know everything. Leave an optional field empty or choose “Don't know”. Photos are recommended, but you can continue without them.
Ordinary phone photos are fine. Please do not include personal data in the photos.
Preliminary valuation and final offer
Based on your description and photos, we give a preliminary valuation. It is not binding. We make the final offer once we have examined the item. The request does not oblige you to sell.

Frequently asked questions
Can I describe a work by an unknown artist?
Yes. Mark the artist as unknown and add photos of the work, the signature and the back. There is no need to guess the artist.
Does a visible signature confirm the artist?
No. A signature helps start the research, but provenance and attribution need further examination. A preliminary valuation based on photos does not confirm authenticity.
Do I need to take the work out of its frame?
There is no need to take the item apart for the request. Photograph the visible work and the back without damaging the frame or the material.
